Are there sufficient changes within the two software packages?

if so where are the main improvements? is it worth upgrading?

You should be able to find a list of features for both pieces of software online. For 2011 it would be right at the AutoDesk website. For 2010 just do a Internet search. I'm positive you'll find a good source of information.

It really depends on what you do with the software. I dont use inventor much but the user interface on 2011 is a little better. I think a lot of the great features have to do with must of the functionality that goes along with both inventor and autodesk products. If you are just using basic functions for modeling and upgrade probably isnt worth it. The biggest thing ive noticed so far with what i do is a bunch of upgrades to the simulation side of the software. There are more and better options with FEA. While the other improvements are great to things like sketch inputs and how you start sketches i wouldnt be running out to upgrade for those things.

thanks guys.

As for the reasoning on an upgrade. I have recently started a new job where all they are using the software for at present is to revese engineer their current products to produce 2d drawings to send out with the products for ease of ordering replacement parts. Although im trying to push new designs hence the need for FEA & simulation. Also there is alot of pipe routing on our products and electrical is somethign we are looking to bring onto the cad system. therefore the routing function would be extremely useful and a big time saver.

routing functionality has been in Inventor Pro for awhile. Which version of 2010 are you using? Also FEA and dynamic simulation have been around for awhile too. Dynamic simulation I believe was added in 2007.

I am only using the basic inventor 2010 suite at present. so I think we are going to upgrade to 2011 pro rather than adding the extra functionality to our 2010.
