aakkaarr Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 How to assemble sping steel press bend part like in the case of simple stationery file clamp. Quote
JD Mather Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Looks like your wire is a bit too wide, but - Mate centerline of wire to centerline of hole. Mate center workplane of wire to center workplane of clamp (assuming wire and clamp were modeled correctly with symmetry about the origin planes. Quote
aakkaarr Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 thanx for quick reply the question is that the wire is actually wider then the insertion hole. Physically wire is pressed to insert into the hole. Now suggest me can any constrint be applied in assembly or do i have to narrow the wire to assemble One more thing how do we assemble circlips Quote
dgaudreau Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I think the best way to do it would be to narrow it a little. For circlips, I think an insert constraint would fit just fine. Quote
aakkaarr Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 if i narrow the wire to make digital assmbly then the whole idea of digital prototyping fails And what about the dimensions of the wire for making a press bend tool of the wire. Quote
JD Mather Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 if i narrow the wire to make digital assmbly then the whole idea of digital prototyping fails The original is your source of truth for manufacturing. Do a Derived Component for the compressed configuration part and Bend Part in the derived configuration. Quote
aakkaarr Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 Dear Jd Mather Sir thanx, can you please give me bit more eleborate example of doing it. I am a student doing B.Tech(Engineering Degree) with Robotics as my final year project. Quote
JD Mather Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Start a new part file. Exit sketch mode. Select Derived Component and then select the orginal file. Bend Part the derived. Any changes made to the original file will update the derived, but any changes to the derived will not change the original. If you can't figure it out attach the spring file here. Quote
aakkaarr Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 here are the files clamp1.zip clamp handles.zip Quote
JD Mather Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Did you use Windows Explorer to zip these (I get an error when I try to extract). Quote
dgaudreau Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I did get an error opening the first file but I was able to open it. Anyway, I am not sure if it would be a good idea to use the ipart function. I just tried it and it does what you wanted but some people might that it would be the wrong way to do it. Here are some pictures: to make the ipart, I had to constrain a little bit more your path sketch for the clamp handle. Quote
CAnnondale Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Hi JD, I would like to ask query on this statement. "Any changes made to the original file will update the derived, but any changes to the derived will not change the original." Is there a feature like "Derived" that even if we make changes to the original file will not affect the so called "Derived" part? Quote
JD Mather Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Hi JD,Is there a feature like "Derived" that even if we make changes to the original file will not affect the so called "Derived" part? Sure, in the Derived part right click and suppress link or break link to the original. Quote
CAnnondale Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Sure, in the Derived part right click and suppress link or break link to the original. Thanks JD for the quick reply. Appreciate it. Quote
aakkaarr Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 rename its extention from .zip to .rar & it will open, the forum didnot accept .rar file to upload so i had to do this but most unzipping programs do open it this way also Quote

I simply use Windows Explorer for zipping files. And since Windows is required to run Inventor.... Quote
