Linkan Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Hi, this is my firs post and i hope I've made it in the right place. I wonder if it is even possible to draw a lenght/height profile in a simple way? I have over 700 gps measured points so writing them by hand seems kind of impossible. Dont know if im making myself understood here, my english is not the best. what i want to be plotted is the distance between the points and the height of the points in a 2d plane. Is it possible, and how do i do it? Quote
lpseifert Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 It would be easier to help you if you let us know what format the raw data (gps points) were in. Are they in a text file or excel? Maybe post a portion of the file. Quote
Linkan Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 hi, sorry. Data is in whatever format is easiest to do it in. for now its in a text file and as a .dxf but if its easier to handle a exelfile that i can be done in seconds. as i said its about 700 points with X,Y,Z coordinates and all i need to be plotted is the X,Y distance and the elevation. Do you need to draw a profile? like a lenght-wise profile of a water-pipe? Or just plot out the coordinates on a drawing? Quote
As far as I know a lenght-wise profil is a job for a vertical of AutoCAD, like Civil 3D or perhaps MEP. Someone might sit on a Lisp file that can do it, we'll see if someone has any ideas. Quote
eldon Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 If you wanted a simple plot of distance and elevation, I would do some processing in a spreadsheet first to get the distance between each point, and then the cumulative distance along. Then make up a data file that had the distance along for the X coordinate, and the elevation for the Y coordinate. Then draw these out by inputting the data as described in several threads on the forum. Perhaps this is too simple, but it would give a quick elevation Quote
BIGAL Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I wrote a simple long section cutter it just worked on a line that then worked out each crossing line, problem here though is that you have points only, you would need to play join the dots for it to work. You can have it if you want but its only half the answer. There are some cheap or free civil packages avialable search the net, one I remember is "ezysurf" it will do contours, long and cross sections. Quote
Linkan Posted August 20, 2010 Author Posted August 20, 2010 Ok, seems like i have to do this the hard (and right) way, thought there would be a shorttrack, but thanx for all the responses... BIGAL: since im at work the IT-guys dont really like me downloading wierd stuff... Quote
