Greendamo Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Hi, How do i open a 2D autocad 2011 drawing in inventor so i can project lines up from it?? With Autocad i start with a 2D Plan drawing of a curved stair and draw lines up in the Z so i can spline the tops of them to make a 3D Path for the extrude command to produce the handrail. BUT... I want to be able to do this in inventor but still using the original 2D plan that was drawn up with AutoCad. Anybody no a way of doing this? Thanks Quote
Oppie Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Hi Greendamo, just open Inventor, click on te OPEN (the yellow folder) button and find your AutoCAD drawing. Quote
Pablo Ferral Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Or, Turn your staircase plan into a block and copy and paste it into a sketch inside Inventor (Remember to right click before you place your block and check that 'preserve Autocad blocks' is turned on) Quote
JD Mather Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Hi Greendamo, just open Inventor, click on te OPEN (the yellow folder) button and find your AutoCAD drawing. ....and select Import under Options before opening. But you are better off forgetting AutoCAD - at least until you know Inventor. Quote
Greendamo Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 Thanks guys. Mathers. I carnt forget Autocad because the plan drawing of the stair is produced by someone else, ive tryed using AutoCad to produce the handrail but there is many hurdles.. I think you told me to try using Inventor. So armed with a new book i decided to give it ago Lol Quote
