CadMax Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I have a drawing that's made up from alot of drawings, and I'm tryin to clean it up because there is something like 40 layers, and all we need is around 8. Problem: The dimensions are in 8 different layers and I want them in 1. When I highlight a dimension and try to move put it in another layer that is off, it still stays on, but when you click it, is has change layer name, but it remains in the old layer to. I've tried to explode it and that made it go into the new layer, but then the dimension is exploded into 6 different parts/lines, and I don't want that to happen. If you need more info just ask Help is appriciated, thanks in advance. Quote
dbroada Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 how are you moving its layer? I would QSELECT all the dimensions, get the properties palette up and change the layer there. Quote
Dipali Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 switch on all the layers. make the layer current, you want the dimension to be in. than select all the dimension in the drawing with either using 'filter' or 'qselect' than use 'laycur' command & selct object>'p' for previous selction Quote

Probably best but with my method you don't need to have the layer you are sending things to on. You can turn off all the layers you want to keep and send stuff to those layers. That way when you have a blank screen you have cleared the layers you don't need. (not always true, block definitions may need checking) Quote
Dipali Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 he said all dimentions are not in one layer, so he needs to ahve all layers on to select all the dimension using 'filter' command IMHO Quote
dbroada Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 (5 more to go ) but QSELECT will select all items of 1 type irrespective of the layer being on or not. Quote
CadMax Posted September 10, 2008 Author Posted September 10, 2008 (5 more to go ) but QSELECT will select all items of 1 type irrespective of the layer being on or not. The QSELECT worked like a charm, thank you. This will make my job a whole lot easier Quote
Dipali Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 thanks for sharing. I don't use qselect but have come to know about them from some of the posts here. I guess i will have to learn to use it practically. I learnt filter also just 2 months bcak & work has been much easier ever since. Quote
