camillastn Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 What are the settings I should use for the dimension style for an architectural drawing, printing at 1/8" scale? Specifically, I am not sure what to put where it says "use overall dimension of" and the text size, I tried setting it to 9" in the dimension style box, as 9" is what it would be in paperspace for 1/8" scale, but that is not right... edwinprakoso Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 If you use paperspace/sheet/layout, then you always use 1:1 scale for the paper. And also all annotation on it. Maybe this can help? http://cad-notes.com/2009/08/5-steps-preparing-your-autocad-plot/ Quote
ReMark Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 The number one rule for drawing in model space is to draw everything full size. Do not scale as you would if you were drawing it on a drafting board. As far as text and dimensions you have a couple of options. You can use annotative scaling and leave all of your text and dimensions in model space OR you can elect to put your text and dimensions in your layout (layouts give us access to paper space). Both have their pros and cons. Quote
Dana W Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Don't forget to set your text height to zero in the text style you selected for your dimension style, otherwise the dimension style won't override it. If you are dimensioning in modelspace and your viewport scale is 1/8" = 1'=0" then your dimension text needs to be 48 times bigger than you want it to appear in paperspace. 1/8" scale is 1/48. You have to make your text 12" high to get it to plot at 1/8" high. If you are dimensioning in paperspace, then make the text 1/8" high. I also suggest using annotative dimensions. Once you have annotative figured out, you don't have to worry about that sort of thing any more. I should be at that point any day now (I hope). And to think I just sent an rfp to a guy who only has AutoCAD 2005 (pre-annotative) and insists the contract work be done on his computer in his space. Quote
