avolongold Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Hello all, I am new here. I have Autocad 2010 (64 bit version) and I am trying to install it on my Laptop which has Windows Vista (64 bit). When I try to install Autocad, I get to the part where the program wants to install Direct X 9.0 but crashes and says "fatal error", "please install Direct X". And then Autocad installation window just shuts down. I checked my Windows Vista and it says I have Direct X 11.0 already installed but im not sure if Autocad is detecting it or it is higher than Autocad requires? Anyone experience similar problems? Any ideas? Quote
JD Mather Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 This might not sound related (and very well might not be) but did you turn off any ant-virus services running and particularly turn off UAC before installing? Do you have Administrator rights on this machine? Quote

Do you have Administrator rights on this machine? Hi and thanks for the response. I have administrator rights to my machine. Out of curiosity, would you be able to clarify how turning off the UAC would relate to helping with the autocad installation shuting down with a fatal error message when it gets to the part where Direct X 9 has to be installed. Is this something that you experienced and solved by doing what you recommended ? Thanks Quote

avolongold Posted September 12, 2010 Author Posted September 12, 2010 Do I need to pay someone for some help here? Quote
ReMark Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 No pay is required but a little patience never hurts. Keep in mind we all volunteer our time/efforts plus it's a weekend (less forum members on line). Windows Vista. Yeah, I got the Business version on one of my laptops. I'm not a big fan of Vista. Now XP Pro was a good OS as is Win7. Quote
ReMark Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I've got DirectX 11 on my desktop (a Win7 Ultimate 64-bit OS) with AutoCAD 2010 (64-bit) loaded no problem so I see no reason why AutoCAD would not load with a higher version of DirectX. Quote
ReMark Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Do you like living on the edge? Yes? Well then you could try this. Create a restore point. Now...remove DirectX 11. Then try loading AutoCAD 2010. Since there is no DirectX let it load ver 9. If all goes well and AutoCAD is finally installed go back and upgrade DirectX to the latest version. Quote
Bill Tillman Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 FYI - I am running Windows Vista Ultimate x64 with DirectX 10. I installed AutoCAD 2010 x64 with no issue and this system runs without trouble for many months now. In fact I can't recall any freeze ups or trouble with it since I built this system back in February of this year. Quote
