Snakeknuckles Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Hi, I am brand new to this forum. I am using autocad 2002 and do my design work in 3d. One thing I would like to be able to present on building plans (perspective views) is landscape/ground surface as it intesects the building. Is there an easy way to create ground surface, like by connecting contour lines. I would also like to give texture to building surfaces such as stone walls. Do I need civil 3d to do this? Thanks- Quote
ReMark Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 I don't think it would be easy to create a ground surface but I see no reason why it couldn't be done in some manner. It might just take longer that's all. One applies "Materials" to objects not textures. AutoCAD comes with its own default materials library but the user can create their own custom materials. Quote

Cad64 Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 One applies "Materials" to objects not textures. Actually, both terms are applicable, but technically, there is a difference between textures and materials. Basically: A Texture is just a bitmap image which, in order to be applied to an object, requires the object to have UVW coordinates mapped. Without UVW coordinates, the texture will be distorted when applied to the model. A Material is typically something that is mathematically generated. It's also referred to as a procedural material. It can contain various combinations of color, shaders, textures, etc., and it requires no UVW's to be mapped to the object. Most people just use "Texture" as a default term for both though. Quote
