JoeC Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Hi All, We have a new user in the department with a new laptop. She is the only one who can't double-click on a file to open it in Acad Mechanical 2008. (it works fine when she uses File - Open.) Is there a setting for this in Acad? Or anywhere else? Thanks Quote
Dana W Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 What does it say to her when she tries it? "Windows cannot open this file." for instance? Check to see if the file type '*.dwg' is pointed toward the proper application to open these files - Right click on a dwg type file. Click "Open With". or similar menu item, Click "Choose default program". Either browse for, or choose AutoCAD dwg Launcher or AutoCAD application as the default opening program. Also, check in AutoCAD to see if the folder containing the drawings is included in the TOOLS > OPTIONS > FILES tab search list. This won't stop a double click on the file from opening it, but it makes for convenience. Quote
JoeC Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 Thanks for the reply Dana. She doesn't get any message when the dwg doesn't open. It will usually open on about the 23rd double-click!! I will check the things you mention above to see it it helps. Thanks Quote
RobDraw Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Maybe the double click speed is set so fast that it is hard to reach. Try slowing it down in your mouse properties. Quote

I can never get a hang of it but she claims that it saves her fingers some stress I set mine to single click as well. Sometimes the roll-over selection is a hassle but for the most part it is good for my really old, old, fingers. Other people that use my computer routinely double click everything and end up with 3 or 4 application copies competing with each other for memory space, thus never opening at all, or at least causing a perpetual hourglass cursor. Then I get complained to, but I never get an explanation as to why it takes them 10 to 12 experiences with my machine to learn something new, nor an explanation as to why they are using my computer at all.
