woody Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Having a senior moment. My computer was reimaged this summer so I lost all my autocad 2006 settings. I distinctly remember there is a system variable setting that allows text to appear on the command line when using the dt (dynamic text command). Can't find it in the help menu or in any book. Can anyone help? Thanks, Woody drafting teacher Quote
Dana W Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) ctrl + 9 will (should) toggle it on and off. EDIT: Wait, that turns the command line on and off. That is not what you asked, is it? I need sleep. I will go look again. Mine petulently asks me if I want to turn it which ever way it is not, at the moment. Edited September 9, 2010 by Dana W arrrrgh. Do I really need to admit my reason? Quote
profcad Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 When using dtext, the text should show up on the command line. If your text does not show up on the command line, does it show up on the graphics screen only? I know with Mtext, you can changed your editor to notepad by changing the MTEXTED system variable. woody Posted September 10, 2010 Author Posted September 10, 2010 yes it shows up on the screen only Quote
profcad Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Try DTEXTED Info from http://www.hyperpics.com DTEXTED (Category: Editing) Read-only: False Data Type: Integer Stored In: Registry Default Value: 2 Description: Specifies whether the In-Place Text Editor or a dialog box is used to create and edit single-line text. AutoCAD 2007 and later 0 - In-place Text Editor is used 1 - Text prompt is displayed at the command line and you are able to pick a point on screen to specify the location of a new single-line text object; editing a single-line text object is done with the Edit Text dialog box. 2 - In-Place Text Editor is used to create and edit single-line text objects. When text is being created, you can specify a location to create a new single-line text object at. When text is created, you can use the TAB or SHIFT+TAB keys to navigate between text objects that were created during the current execution of the TEXT command. The ALT key can be used to select multiple text objects to edit at a time when editing single-line text. AutoCAD 2006 0 - In-place Text Editor is used 1 - Edit Text dialog box is used Quote
ReMark Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Woody: Might I suggest a change to the title of your thread? Your problem (Dynamic text not appearing on command line) is not expressed in the title (Teacher) you have chosen to use. Someone with a similar problem may pass right by your thread. Quote
woody Posted September 10, 2010 Author Posted September 10, 2010 dtexted worked, thanks alot, I changed the value to 1. I'm thinking there it was a differert comand, but this works fine. Thanks again. Quote
Dana W Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 I thought it had something to do with using dynamic input since I use it (2009) and my dtext does not show up on the command line either, like most of the stuff entered via dynamic input. Does 2006 even have dynamic input? S'what I get for posting anything at all 27 hours into an all-nighter deadline battle. Anyhow, my dtexted was set to 2 also. And, the guy I was beating myself up for all night called this morning and postponed our meeting until next week. I am not charging him near enough. Quote
fuccaro Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 I adjusted the thread title. Thank you ReMark. Quote
