Hap Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 I have lines of text in a legend of a landscape drawing and each line of text is a block with attributes. Each attribute represents a column of text. There are a total of five columns (attributes). I got it from someone else’s drawing 10 years ago but would like to know how to create this on my own and perhaps have six or seven columns instead of just five. Is this a simple task? I tried searching thru the 2004 Bible book with no luck. It’s hard to find something if you don’t know exactly what to search for. Hap Text Block.dwg Quote
fuccaro Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Use ATTDEF to define an attribute. Use it 5 or 6 times and place them in a line, one next to the other. With the BLOCK command convert them to block. Quote
Hap Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 Thanks Fuccaro , I'll have to play around with it tomorrow. It worked except . . . A few things things it did that I don't like: 1) It askes for the attributes in the opposite order that I made them. 2) It's incertion point was where I wanted it but the block was 50 feet and 72 degrees above it. 3) It created and put it on a locked layer (0-RefEdit0) 4) It won't let me move it or delete it, even after I unlocked that layer . . . It gives "1 was not in the working layer". I had to Undo it. I'm thinking I should just use mtext and set tabs and then copy it down as many times as I need to. Quote
fuccaro Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 1) The order AutoCAD prompts you for the attribute values should match the order you selected the attributes when creating the block. Let me guess: you made a window selection from right to left, right? 2) When creating the block, did you specify the block insertion point? 3) Before you start defining the attributes, switch to Layer 0. Define your block in Layer 0 and it will inherit the properties of the layer you insert it. 4) It sounds like you started the REFEDIT command but you didn't finish it. Maybe you just closed the little window appearing when the REFEDIT command starts, but you didn't exit the command. Do it as i told you for No3) and your No4) issue should be solved too. If you draw rectangles around attributes, when you insert the block many times one above the other, it will look like a table. That's the way I created BOM before AutoCAD introduced the Tables. Quote
Hap Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 1) I tried a window selection both directions (?) 2) I thought I did but I may have missed that. 3) That worked 4) Not sure what I did the first time but it's solved Very good . . . It's is now working as I hoped it would. Thanks so much for taking the time, Hap Quote
rkent Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 [quote name='Hap;354429 ]1) I tried a window selection both directions (?) ' date=' Hap[/quote'] You don't use window selection, select the attributes one at a time in the order you want them to appear in the block. Quote
edwinprakoso Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 You can also arrange the sequence using BATTMAN Nope, it's not the hero with the fancy car... Quote
