BananuZ Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 What do I need to do to get ACAD14 to run on Windowa Vista? Quote
ReMark Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 You need a whole lotta luck not to mention a wagon full of patience. Here's another idea. Get hold of a copy of Windows 95 and load that on your computer (dual boot) or add a second hard drive and load Win95 and AC r14 on that. Set the master/slave juumper to master and leave the data cable unplugged but keep it (the second hard drive) connected to a power cable. Now, when you are ready to use AutoCAD, unplug the data cable on the main drive (with Vista on it) and plug it into the second drive. Turn on your computer and away you go. Quote
f700es Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Addition to ReMark's idea, MS has Virtural PC for free. Install this and load up Win95 and this way you will not have to reboot and you can use it at native speeds! http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx I guess you could also try to install and run in Win2000 compatibility mode. Good luck! Quote

SuperCAD Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Not to be a jerk or sound like I'm putting anyone down, but what is the big deal with R14? What is it that keeps anyone from upgrading? The tools in 2008 make life so much easier in CAD. I only ask because I've talked to some people who absolutely will not upgrade from R14. Quote
f700es Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I guess some look at it this way, don't fix it unless it's broken. R14 might do exactly what they need and to them why change? Some people you only draw say, floorplans and 2D elevations and sections. They can get buy with R14 all day long. They do only a few number of sheets and no need for new 3D commands or new enhancements. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Quote
ReMark Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Reminds me of my old boss. Every year when budget planning time came around I'd put in for an upgrade to AutoCAD. When we went over my budget he ask, "Can you do the job with the tools you have?" Well, I couldn't actually lie to him and say "No" so he would not approve the upgrade. Usually I had to wait until the software was on the verge of being antiquated before he would give his approval. He was a very nice guy otherwise. Easy to work with and not that demanding except when it came to detail. He loved seeing a lot of detail. I mean a lot. New boss says, "Sure, get what you need (within reason)." It's that "within reason" part that I sometimes trip myself up. Hey, I'm up to 2009 now so I can't complain. Quote
Martini Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I had trouble with 2009 and vista. So I called AutoCAD support and was talkin to some guy and he imformed me that they recomend you run XP Pro. And that they are trying to figure out the bugs and should be done soon. But i cannot stand vista anyways so i jumped at the chance to switch back. Quote
