djp6 Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 Hi I'm new to autocad and at present am using 2008. Is it possible (and how do you do it) to change the construction line colour (so you don't have to change layers) and add ruler markings to the construction lines to help set out a drawing. Any help, pointers to help videos, etc, would be much appreciated. Cheers Quote
ReMark Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 What seems to be the problem with using construction lines and changing layers? There really is no reason to add ruler markings. Use the Grid and Snap commands. Also, utilize Ortho mode and Osnaps. Quote
djp6 Posted September 19, 2010 Author Posted September 19, 2010 Hi The problem i am having is i am using construction lines to start setting out a plot which have used certain reference lines to measure from, when i put a con line over them, it covers it, which isn't too much of a problem only it colours them the same colour as my main drawing layer lines, i don't want to have to switch layers if possible, unless there is a fast or automatic way to do it. At the moment i cant distinguish between my lines and my construction lines. Also I used to use a GIS cad application that allowed you to mark you construction lines at various intervals which were easy to see the measurements, this made life easy and i was hoping autocad would have something similar. thanks for your help Quote
ReMark Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 From your AutoCAD Help file: "You may want to create infinite lines on a construction line layer that can be frozen or turned off before plotting." I don't use construction lines. I feel they are an unnecessary waste of time and effort. However, do not let that disuade you from using them. There is no "ruler" command in AutoCAD but you can mark off lines using Points and if you have Nodes enabled in your Osnap settings then you can snap to these points. Quote
rkent Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 You can quickly change layers with the always available layer tool, usually near the top left of the screen. You can always use the offset command or the array command to quickly get more construction lines at a set distance from one another. (This would be an answer to your request for ruler markings.) If you do need a gird or markers to help you with a drawing and they are the same distance each time it would be very easy to make a block that you can insert at any time. I use construction lines quite a bit and have a little lisp routine to change the layer to a construction layer when I type XL. Quote
skagemo Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Hi to change the construction line colour Cheers I may be insulting you now, but I read this as you want to know how change the colour of a line to something besides what is defined by the layer it's on? Quote
