Fellow Forum Members,

I drew a diagram using CorelDraw x4 and exported the diagram as an AutoCad 2008 file format from CorelDraw. Importing it into AutoCad 2008 the produces the following problem: the dashed lines don't show up at all, and the vector logo I designed is missing the black fill color. What is the correct way to import into AutoCad 2008 so that vector graphics created in CorelDraw import properly? Coreldraw lets me export as DXF, EPS, DWG, and WMF. I have tried all with no success.

Alternatively, the import formats available in AutoCad 2008 are: 3ds, FXB, wmf, sat, and dgn. Any help on how I could solve my import problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you exported from Corel as .dwg, then why are you trying to import into Autocad? The Autocad drawing format is .dwg, so just open it like you would any other drawing file. No importing required. I can do this with Illustrator, no problem.

If you're still having trouble, post your exported .dwg file here.

Thanks for the post CAD64,

This is my situation. My autocad skills are very limited. However, my skills with CorelDraw are advanced. Lastly, the customer wants AutoCad files delivered with a very short deadline. In short, I don't have the time needed to master AutoCad due to the short deadline. THerefore, I'm using CorelDraw. All of the drawings are done, and I'm exporting them out of CorelDraw as AutoCad 2008 format.

When I import them into AutoCad 2008 the dashed lines are not showing up, and

the black filling I applied in a logo is not showing up in AutoCad. I'm seeking help on how I can successfully convert my art from CorelDraw to AutoCad. Once I accomplish this I can deliver to the customer Autocad files that look like the original art I created using CorelDraw. The only difference is that the files will be saved as AutoCad files since this is what he wants.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, I don't have any experience with Corel, so I don't know how well it exports to .dwg format, but like I said before, I can export from Illustrator to .dwg and it opens in Autocad just fine. Dashed lines show up dashed. Solid fills are converted to solid hatches. Everything appears as it should.

You say dashed lines don't show up at all? Is it possible that it's just the color of the lines that is the problem. If the lines are black, on a black background, they will be difficult, or impossible, to see. The same goes for the solid fill color. If you post your exported .dwg file we can take a look. Otherwise, it's going to be difficult to diagnose this problem. I don't think we have many Corel users here.

Cad64,

I have posted export tests using Adobe Illustrator C4 and Corel Draw X5 (both have simple objects: 1 solid line, 1 dashed line, and 1 red solid fill shape) . What I learned is that Illustrator has a better DWG export filter when compared to Corel.

Illustrator DWG export seems to hold the red solid fill in AutoCad 2008. However, the dashed line is not 100% true to the AI file. The miter on the dashed lines are rounded when in fact they are suppose to be straight.

Alternatively, CorelDraw is a disaster. The dashed line is not even close to the original, and the red solid fill is missing. All it shows is the outline of the fill but the red fill itself is missing (eventhough the fill used is RGB). It's obvious that the 2008 DWG filter Corel comes equipped with is not very reliable when exporting art to be viewed in AutoCad.

Lastly, I managed to solve some of my conversion problem woes by doing the following. From Corel Draw X5 I exported as an Adobe Illustrator file format. Then I opened up the AI export using my Adobe Illustrator C4. From within Illustrator C4 I export as AutoCad 2006. I finally import this into AutoCad 2008 and I get results that are better than what I was getting before. The solid fill is there and the dashed line is there eventhough it's not 100% perfect.

Thanks for the help.
