Hi folks,

I'm curious about lineweights to use in a drawing I'm doing.

This drawing is a simple floor plan with exterior walls, windows and interior walls. What lineweights do professional acad users use?

thannks in advance...Tim

I might say, "depends on the print size."

Usually 25mm works for me. Comments welcome? Oh, here we go!

Where are you posting from Tim? Just curious.

Any good architectural drafting and design book should have a section dealing with linetypes and within that section mention lineweights as well. Or, if your company follows a particular standard, such as AIA, perhaps they have recommended lineweights.

Thanks Tankman and ReMark,

My drawing is a plan of a proposed residential interior. I want to highlight the exterior walls..so want a thicker lineweight. I just didn't know what professionals do. There must be AIA standards.

Maybe I'll look that up online.

Tankman, I'm posting from Cranston, Rhode Island

Cranston, R.I.? You're really not that far away from me. I actually live closer to Hartford, CT.

Funny, but I'm used to using millimeters when it comes to lineweights even though I draw using Imperial units. I'd recommend 6mm or 7mm for the exterior walls. You can drop to 5mm for windows and doors and 3mm for dimensions, text and hatching. That should work fine.

What size paper are you plotting to?
