brytnee Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Hello, I'm trying to set up my computer at work with dynamic blocks but it doesn't seem to be working. I create a WBLOCK then I go to the block editor add the dynamics I want then I save it but when I go to insert it into a new drawing file the dynamic attributes I added to the block are gone and all I'm left with is a simple block!! How do I get the dynamic blocks to work in multiple drawings?? Thanks Quote
monk Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Sounds silly but what file format are you saving them to? I might be wrong but pre 2005 loses some functionality? Create the block in the drawing, then copy and paste out? alternatively use design center to import the block from another file. Quote
YZ Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 I may be repeating what you already know, but when I create a block using WBLOCK, then I open that drawing from wherever I saved it and use the BEDIT command. This brings up the dialog box below. Then I just select and it goes to Dynamic Block Editor. Before saving and inserting (or redefining) the block I always use the Test Block Button at the top left of the Dynamic Block Ribbon to ensure it is working correctly. Quote
JBullseye74 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 hmm something sounds fishy...... Try adding the dynamic properties when you make the block then WBLOCK it into a block folder where you can manage your blocks. Then insert this block into your Tool Pallette for efficiency. Question: When you insert your blocks into a drawing if you explode them once do the dymanic properties come back? Also its possible you should try to purge a drawing before inserting said blocks in case you have an earlier same named block in the drawing without its dynamic properties... Let me know how you get on. Cheers Quote
qball Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 If you open the file again, has it actually saved the previous changes? I found when I used 2007 that when I open the file and it says "Would you like to open the file in Block Editor?" and I click Yes, when I was finished in Block Editor it would close the file without saving the changes. The solution to that was click No at open, then type BEdit, . Then you can save the file when finished editing. Quote
98special Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 After you create and save a dynamic block, do not use the Insert Block command to place a new copy. Instead, open AutoCad Design Center. The alias is ADC. In its left-hand pane, navigate to the file which contains your dynamic block. Expand its tree. Click on 'Blocks'. From the right-hand pane, drag-and-drop your dynamic block into your working window. Now you should see and have access to your newly created block. BTW, welcome to the forums. Quote
Jimmy Tin Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I'm not quite sure how your aiming to create your blocks but I'll write down how I go about making dynamic blocks and you might find something in it. I usually have a blank drawing where my entities are, type block, name and select entities and make sure 'Open block editor' is ticked (think it's bottom left corner). Press OK. This closes Block selection and opens block editor. Here I add the parameters and actions to the block to make it dynamic. Close block editer. Block is created with dynamics. I then save drawing into my block folder (or in some cases copy block in another drawing with similar blocks). I use the blocks in one of 2 ways. I either put them on a palette. Drag and drop block into pallete. Or, I copy block directly from block drawing into project drawing. Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I know this is going to seem wrong, but try exploding the block once you've inserted into the dwg Quote
kool130 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 hi, click the button "Block" and not "Objects" when making wblock for dymanic block....or else your dynamic block wont work.. peace out.. kool Quote
