alam k Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 I need to know where i can download the AutoCAD software for free without [piking up a virus. Cos i tried autodesk already but it messed up my computer:x Quote
CADTutor Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 When you say "i tried autodesk already...", do you mean you downloaded the student version and it contained a virus? I find that hard to believe. The only legal way to acquire AutoCAD for free is from Autodesk itself via the Student Community or similar. Please don't ask for illegal software on these forums. Quote

ReMark Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 If you want free software there is a program called DraftSight that you can download. It's strictly 2D though. It can supposedly open and save DWG files. Have you tried giving AutoDesk a call or emailing them for assistance? DraftSight http://www.3ds.com/products/draftsight#vid1 For cheaper versions of AutoCAD-like software try ZWcad. http://www.zwcad.org/ Quote

There could be many reasons why it didn't work. The most obvious being that you tried to install a 64bit version on a 32bit OS or vice versa. Did you make sure you had the right download? Quote
JD Mather Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 .. dont jump to conclusions!!iv already tried autodesk with a STUDENT PASS but that one doesnt seem to work! I have to wonder why you didn't include full information in your original post? You still haven't indicated EXACTLY what the problem was. Turn off anti-virus scanning before downloading from Autodesk student community. If you don't trust Autodesk then purchase a disk. You can purchase student license at edu sites such as http://www.journeyed.com Before installing make sure your anti-virus is turned off and also turn off UAC (if running Vista or Windows 7). If you still have trouble indicate exactly what the problem is along with screen captures. Does your school have a student IT Help Desk that can help you install software? What about your instructor? I just looked around a bit an noticed that this is really a continuation of a previous thread you started here. So that the problem can be followed to its solution you should continue a discussion rather than starting a new discussion. I have never seen the student download "mess up a computer". I have only seen students mess up a computer. It might be difficult to fix the problem now without an experienced IT person sitting at the keyboard. You might need to find the Autodesk AutoCAD Clean Uninstall document (caution - requires Registry edits) and then run this http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html In any case, let's take the problems one-at-time with clear and complete information on the problem you are experiencing. ReMark Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 While I have always made it a habit to temporarily disable my antivirus program I have not had occasion to turn off the UAC in Windows 7 Ultimate despite having installed three AutoDesk products thus far. No problems during any of the installs either. I always create a Restore Point before loading any new piece of software. That way if the program "messes up my computer" I can return things to their pre-installation condition. I've had to do this once with a disk-imaging program that did not play well with Win7. Quote
