gib65 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I'm working with a file with some XREFs. They all seem to be on layer 0. I'm just wondering how I would go about controlling the order that they appear in the layers. This is especially difficult for me because not only am I unfamiliar with XREFs but I don't know of a way to switch around the order of regular layers. I would very much appreciate some help here. JPlanera Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Any layer modifications can be made by opening the layers dialog box, LAYER, at command line... notice the tree at the left, your xrefs are filtered accordingly Quote
BlackBox Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I believe you're looking for the ._draworder command. If your right+click menu is enable within the AutoCAD Options (._options command), then you should also be able to select objects, and right+click to have access to the draw order flyout menu. Hope this helps! Quote

Hope this helps! Yes, this helped with half my problem. The other half goes like this: While I was able to right-click on the entire set of XREFs as a whole and bring it to the front, there are elements within the whole that I can't select independently of the rest, elements that I'd like to be drawn overtop other elements of the same XREF whole. The only thing I could think of doing (which didn't work) was to open the file where these elements exist, select them, right-click, bring them to the front, save, and reimport in the original file. But like I said, this didn't work. Quote
RobDraw Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Yeah, you've found one of the shortcomings of XREFs. The closest I've gotten for draworder to work is for the current drawing session only. If I remember correctly, once I set the draworder in the referenced file, I had to detach and reattach it in the referencing file. Future drawing sessions may not have the draw order you set. Quote

Hmm... that's too bad. I do have a work around though. If I move the elements in the XREF along the z-axis in the negative direction, they do appear 'behind' the other elements (within the XREF and otherwise) in the root drawings. Quote

I have tried that with hatches with limited success in getting them to plot "behind". Quote
