kasper_4000
I just got these messages: "The apperance of this object is not controlled by the display system".. "This object is an xref and is not editable through the display tab. Use the context menu to acces the object display properties for the xref". I can't use my delete button, I can't copy, move, edit blocks etc. What has happened and how do i change my Acad back to normal?? Thanks!!! Tiger
Its not a block judging from the message, it's an x-ref. And an X-ref you can't edit in the same way, it is its own file somwhere. Bring up the External Reference manager and find the search path for it. Oh, and please don't double post.
kasper_4000
Thanks for the quick answer and sorry for the double post... I'm fully aware on how to manage xrefs but my real problem is the other things about not being able to edit anything. Just thought that someone maybe had seen these messages before. The actual problem is not really concerning xrefs. All my normal keyboard shortcuts doesn't seem to work. I can't even edit any text. Think i'll try to reinstall... Tiger
Aha, its a command problem. If you type the command as _.move (with _ and dot) does it work then?
kasper_4000
Yep that works. I can also select the object, press M "enter", but then it wants me to select the object a second time and press enter again. And finally it won't snap to anything. not even the object itself. Tiger
try changing the variable PICKFIRST to
kasper_4000
GREAT!!!!!!!!!! It works!!!! Thank you so much, was just about to go completely mental... But how come it works. Can you explain what the command does??
Tiger
PICKFIRST is a variable that controls wheter you can select objects before you input a command or have to select them after. It is fairly common that the variable is changed by poorly-written lisps.
ReMark
Using poorly written code is an offense punishable by a good smack upside the head. Get ready because one is coming your way.
kasper_4000
Thanks to all... I have another question though... It's taking really long to plot and undo... do you know why that is?? When I open a drawing it says: "the following shortcuts in the search were invalid and ignored; X:\Acad\plot styles\Add-A-Plot Style Table Wizard.lnk
Tiger
Could be lots of reasons. - how's your computerspecs? Everything up to date vis-a-vi drivers, service packs and what-nots? - Have you defragged the comp and cleaned it from unnecessary files recently? - is it a large drawing? does it do the same in a new-started drawing? Lots of layers/layer states? - Have you run Purge/Audit lately? Is there a servicepack on AutoCAd 2011 that you might have missed?
ReMark
Are you plotting over a network?
kasper_4000
Computer specs are fine. It's during the last week or so that i have experienced these things. The comp. is pretty new so it shouldn't be a problem with defrag. etc. It does the same in all drawing, wether they are new or "old"... Yes, I'm printing over a network. kasper_4000
When I try to run the update it says: "The service pack could not be installed because the expected autodesk product could not be located on your computer. Make sure that you are using the correct service pack for the product.
ReMark
Service packs are available for both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. It is important that you download and install the correct version for your system.
kasper_4000
Yes, but this is the message I got out the 32-bit version and I'm running Autocad 32-bit.
ReMark
The only other way I could see this message appearing is if you downloaded the update for 2010 instead of 2011 which seems unlikely.
kasper_4000
ok... thanks for your help. I found out that if I close my properties pallette, the things I complained about with undo, plot etc. was suddenly close to normal. This is clearly not the right way to fix the problem but it's ok for now... Thanks to both of you... It was very helpfull...
