Do you want to change Pop up menu name or Menu group name?

Both the things you can change by editing the .mnu file / .cui file and reload it.

If you want to change menu name in .cui file....

Find menu group in cui file which is noted as

***GROUPNAME

Below the menu group you can find the different menu names which are noted as

Changing this menu name can help you.

Thats not for a .cui file. Those belong to the old .mnu file from 2004 and back. You do your editing in the cui as shown below in the image. You should never rename any part of the original acad.cui unless you are looking for problems. You can add menus and customize them through the CUI. Refer to the AutoCAD Help Section before you do anything to your menus.

If you want to bring in an old .mnu or .mns type file, You need to import it in through the CUI with _cuiimport command. This will bring up the CUI editor as shown in the image below. You can save it to the name you want by doing a Save As... as also shown below. You can place it where you want in your menu area.

Before doing anything I recommend you make a backup profile in case you screw up and also refer to the AutoCAD Help File to have a better understanding on how to do what your looking to do.

Personally this is where I think any customized menus should be inserted.

Your right ReMark, Thats where I have my custom menus. Sorry if I did not go into enough detail, But I wish folks would look at their help file for once. All that information available gets ignored to often.

What's a HELP file?

Then they wonder why they have so many problems. OIE - Operator Induced Error.

Working with the CUI editor is still shakey ground for someone who has not done it before. I still say that a backup profile should be made just in case.

AutoCAD has a backup CUI file. For example, the backup CUI file for AutoCAD 2009 can be found in:

C:\Documents and Settings\computer name\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2009\R17.2\enu\Support

The file is named acad.bak.cui and will be the same file size and have the same date as the acad.cui file itself.

I did not know that, Maybe I should go to the help file and read further.

Thanks for the info.

ReMark is correct.

My company presently has all of our Enterprise CUI's (one ENT, and many partials to the ENT) mapped to a network drive, and our MAIN.cui is mapped to our personal drive (on the network) for customization. That way, no matter what office we go to, all of our personal settings/customizations follow.

Having multiple platforms, I still utilize a CUSTOM.cui so that my customizations can easily be added to each platform without the need to copy my customizations into each MAIN.cui file.

... even those CUI files available to our personal network space have the automatic .bak.cui files.

Ok, I found it.

Good information to know.

Thanks Guys

Do not worry about it. I was a bit usure where you were going with it. I thought I would mention that you can import menu files (mnu & mns) from older versions of CAD. To edit an older menu file would only do you good if you want to see changes to it in the CUI. Changing AutoCADs own menu structure is not a good thing Old or New versions. Any customizing for menus should be kept contained to new indivdual custom menus you wish to add. Less harm to your AutoCAD application can be kept to a minimum that way and change overs to new versions are easier.

Could you upload the *.CUI file?

To tell you the best way.

asos2000,

The original posters question is still not clear. He/She does not mention what type of file is to be renamed/changed. It could already be a .cui or .mnu/mns to be imported/converted to .cui. In any case it remains clear that the CUI editor is the only way to do this and careful study of the manner in which to do this is required. More information should be given by the OP. A supplied file would be nice to confirm this, But a mention of the file type is all that is really needed.
