laurits12 Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 (edited) I have modeled a human head in SolidWorks and exported face as dxf./dwg. but my CNC software can't handle all these polylines or splines. Does anybody know how to convert polylines to arcs or simplify splines or maybe have a better nesting program than me? thanks laurits HEAD MALE SPLINES.DXF POLYLINES..DXF Edited November 6, 2010 by laurits12 Quote
stevsmith Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Hi laurits, and welcome to the forums. I have came across this before but for the life of me I can't remember where. When you are saving the dxf file in Solidworks, is there an option to save as a dxf r12 version? Im pretty sure that when you save to this format r12 cannot read splines and it converts them to lines and arcs. Quote
laurits12 Posted November 7, 2010 Author Posted November 7, 2010 Hi Stevie Thank you for your reply I have tryed your suggestion and the result is that i get polylines. i tryed exploding thees polylines (in autocad) and what i ended up with was small line segments (0.033mm long) and that is also to much data to handle for my CNC nesting software Quote
eldon Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I listed one of your splines, and in a length of 24 units, there were 100 or so control points. The spacing of these points was very haphazard, with the lengths between control points varying from 1.5 units to 0 units. Perhaps you would do better if you used Boundary to create a polyline around the whole shape, then exported that polyline at regular intervals. Quote
