feargt Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Hi all, I have just been informed by our IT department that we will changing servers shortly....maybe in a month or 2 or early in 2011. Currently we have 40 Linux fileservers consolidated on one central "storage". The new "Storage" is a NetApp 2040 "Storage" with CIFS sharing. (I'm not an IT expert and I'm translating the german email that I received so if the technical jargan does not sound great forgive me.) What I would like to know is from a CAD perspective what do I need to be aware of besides the fact that about 20,000 Xrefs will need to be repathed. Current software in use is as follows: AutoCAD 2005-2010 - (Xrefs) Civil 3D 2008-2010 (Data Shortcuts + xrefs) Nemetschek Allplan All comments or suggestions are very welcome...... thanks Feargt Quote
BlackBox Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Well, now is the time to start considering what changes (if any) you'd like to make to your standard project directory structure, mapping personal customizations, etc. for all new projects moving forward (keeping your existing structure for current projects of course). Not sure of the scope of your company, but one of the things I greatly value about our AutoCAD deployment is that the company provides for us 'Custom' drive space (on the network) where all of our personal customizations are stored. This means that no matter what PC (or office) I sit down at, when I log in, all of my personal settings 'follow me'. Hope this helps! Quote
