woodman78 Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Hi, I have setup tool palettes for our office for our standard blocks. I am looking at how to make them available to everyone in the office. Is there some way to load it into the cui? I have read a few threads about changing the path for the tool palettes but they didn't offer great advice. Can someone point me in the right direction? Ta. Quote
Tiger Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I have placed the toolpalette files (atc) on the network and then changed the Tool Palette File Location (Options > Files) to that place on the network. It works almost perfectly Another way to do it (which I have discarded because my co-workers would not be bothered to do it) is to export your toolpalettes and then ask everyone to import them. The downside is that everytime you update them, everyone has to import them again. Quote
woodman78 Posted November 11, 2010 Author Posted November 11, 2010 Thanks Tiger, only problem is when I export them I get xtc files and when I point the path to that directory it doesn't show up anything. How to export atc files? Quote
Tiger Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Yeah, the xtc-files are just for import, if you use atc-files you just point AutoCAD that way and it reads 'em automatically. Glad you got it sorted Quote
alanjt Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Put them on the network, edit the Tool Palette Path on each machine (I've posted code on automating this) and make sure you either have IT remove write access to the Tool Palettes folder from everyone except your, or manually set the folder to read-only. You can also set it in the profile, if everyone uses the same profile. Quote

Thanks Alan Quote
alanjt Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 oh...now that's a thought. 'cause there are some glitches with it that annoys me, perhaps read-only will solve it. Thanks Alan No problem. I find it best to just set the folder to read-only, that way no one (including yourself) can edit it 'accidentally' and if you have to make edits, just close AutoCAD, remove read-only status from the folder, open and make your edits. I still had IT remove write access to the entire folder, just to be safe. The main thing is you want to see the little lock icon at the bottom of the TP window. Quote
alanjt Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 The scariest thing about TP is the last out priority. The last place I worked, myself and a couple others had write access to the TP folder and one day, after a couple hours of adding new TP and fixing old ones, I closed out only to realize that none of my changes were there the next day. After that, I copying the entire TP folder to my C drive, making my edits, then either come in early/state late and replace the TP folder on the network. Quote
BlackBox Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 My company also uses a model similar to what Alan suggested. Quote
alanjt Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 My company Dude, hook a brother up with a job! Quote
BlackBox Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Dude, hook a brother up with a job! Yeah, I guess that was a bit misleading , as I have neither the capitol, or the professional network to accomplish that feat. Regardless of who's company, I'd be honored to work with you, Alan. Quote
alanjt Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Yeah, I guess that was a bit misleading , as I have neither the capitol, or the professional network to accomplish that feat.I know, I was just having a little fun. I enjoy sentence ambiguities (logic nerd). Regardless of who's company, I'd be honored to work with you, Alan. You only say that because you haven't been cursed with my company. Quote

BlackBox Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Not that kind of company! Oh! I just got it!! Well, the fact that you convinced some lady to stick around and have your children, means that it (tolerating your company) is possible. I understand that is only representative of a small statistical pool, and only applies to a select few. But still. lmao Quote

My Mom actually told me that if I screw things up with my wife, she would have to take her side, regardless. Quote
