Hi,

I'm currently working with a customer that have a strange problem:

After migrating 30+ workstations to Windows7 x64 and AutoCAD Structural Detailing 2011 x64, we are seeing a bug/problem with file locks.

If one employee opens drawings and start working with them (both model and xrefs) these files are usually locked for others to write.

But now, after migration, several users are able to open these files with full read/write access even thou it's already opened and locked by the first user.

These implications result in the second (or third for that matter) user is able to save his/hers drawing and therefor destroying whatever changes the first user has made.

We have never had this problem before migrating to Windows7, and we have not made any changes on the server.

Enviroment information:

Windows Small Business Server 2008, x64

Standard File and Print Services

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.5

All 34 clients is HP Workstations xw4400 - Z400 with Autodesk Certified Specs.

All systems are patched by Windows Update regular.

Have you heard of this file lock problem before?

Regards,

Nicklas

I seem to recall coming across this quite recently while researching information regarding demand loading of xrefs. I'll have to poke around a bit and see if I can relocate the info. Since I am on a standalone workstation network related problems like this are not common to my day-to-day activities.

How are you determining that the first user has locked the drawing?

I haven't been there to confirm that a .dwl file is created, but I know that it worked before the migration.

Users still use the same shares, with the same permissions and same server.

Only two things changed: AutoCAD MEP 2008 x86 -> AutoCAD SD 2011 x64

And WinXP x86 -> Win7 Pro, x64.

I thought file locking was actually controlled by the OS and not by AutoCAD itself.

Just out of curiosity could you check, on one user's system, what is XLOADCTL set to?

Is your company on Subscription?

Hello again,

I've checked the XLOADCTL variable, and it is set to 2 on all workstations.

The customer is on subscription with Autodesk.

Update:

It's the model files that sometimes gets this problem. No xrefs loaded in these files.

I see that AutoCAD creates a .dwl and a .dwl2 file in the same directory.

The WHOHAS command shows that the first user already has it opened, but I can still open it as the second user with full permissions. If I save it, the first user will be unable to save the drawing (says it's locked by me).

Hope this clearifies some.

Has the problem been conveyed to anyone at Subscription services?
