I am new to 3D but quite proficient in Autocad 2D. I have a job that requires drawing up M&E ducting in 3D from 2D plans and sections to check for clashes. It looks reasonably straight forward to do this with basic Autocad (2008 and 3D wireframes. Am I likely to run into any performance or other issues?

Another suggestion has been to use Navisworks (which I currrently don't have) ... is this likely to be any better? what does Navisworks give you that I can not do in raw Autocad?

Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to reply...

Performance issues will mainly depending on your system specifications and the drawing file size.

Navisworks does not create 3D objects, it's more of a viewer of 3D models created in different software packages. It does have the ability to find conflicts between the models which were brought in. So Navisworks, in you case, would be more of a tool to easily locate any conflicts, which I don't think would be possible in AutoCAD out of the box.

Thanks for the info chaps. The various flavours of Autodesk products (I realise Navisworks was bought in) can be quite confusing. So sounds like the latter is more of a verification tool.

In AutoCAD one can use the Interfere command to visually interferences.
