Is there any way you can block .dwg from opening ?

So you can control wheter it will open or not on your computer?

I need this in a hurry!

Thanx!

p.s. saving to other versions is not the solution!

You can put a password on your drawing, but you better make sure you write it down and keep it in a safe place, because if you lose the password, your drawing is gone. There is no password recovery for CAD drawings.

You can rename the file. Ex. - house.dwg to house.~wg

How do you do this?

From your AutoCAD Help file:

To add a password before saving a drawing

  1. Click File menu > Save As. At the command prompt, enter saveas.
  2. In the Save Drawing As dialog box, before saving the file, click Tools menu > Security Options.
  3. In the Security Options dialog box, Password tab, enter a password.
  4. To encrypt drawing properties, such as the title, author, subject, and keywords, click Encrypt Drawing Properties.
  5. Click OK.
  6. In the Confirm Password dialog box, enter the password you used. Click OK.

Warning: If you lose a password, it is not recoverable. Before you add a password to a drawing, you should create a backup that is not protected with a password.

Don't come back and tell us you forgot the password and can't open the drawing and then beg us for help. We will NOT be able to help you no matter how much you cry. Period.

Now it sounds like you want to give one of your coworkers or your boss a heart attack. Forget it. I'm not playing that game.

ReMark is right. You need to tell us what you're up to. This sounds very shady. :glare:

The easiest way to keep a drawing from opening is to simply not click on it in the first place.

Why would you want to do this?
