Posho91 Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Hi, I'm having trouble creating a pitched roof on this model. The central block you see in the picture needs to go from 4m high on the right down to 3m high on the left. I've tried using the chamfer tool, selecting the left side top edge, dragging down 1 m, then dragging the horizontal arrow across to the other end, but when I hit enter it doesnt do anything :/ Its a single solid, all the boxes etc. have been combined with union. Is there a better way of doing this? Quote
nestly Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 I don't think CHAMFEREDGE works on faces with multiple parallel edges. Perhaps figure out the angle of the pitch and use SOLIDEDIT > TAPER or SLICE with the 3point option to define a cutting plane Quote
Posho91 Posted December 20, 2010 Author Posted December 20, 2010 Oh ok I thought that might be the case. Please can you explain in more detail how to use slice with the 3point option? I havent used that before. Thanks. Edit: I've had a quick play with the slice tool but rather baffled by what its asking me, perhaps you could show me which specific points to pick relating to my screenshot? Quote
ReMark Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 The SLICE command will work if you use the Surface option. A line representing the pitch of the roof is drawn then extruded (thus resulting in a surface). The user is prompted to pick the object to be sliced and the surface to be used. He/she is given the option of saving one or both sides of the resultant geometry. I usually use the default of Both then go in and erase what I don't want. Need an example? Quote
Posho91 Posted December 20, 2010 Author Posted December 20, 2010 Worked like a charm, Thanks for your help. I'll probably have a few more threads going by the end of the day as I try to figure out how to build this complex roof though Quote
ReMark Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 You're entirely welcomed. Sure...come back with your few more questions re: complex pitched roofs. We'll just charge you double what we did for the first question. Fair? Quote
Posho91 Posted December 20, 2010 Author Posted December 20, 2010 Haha, yeah, fair. I'll send you a cookie or something. Quote
nestly Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Good, I see you figured it out using a surface as your cutting plane as Remark suggested. 3Point works basically the same way, except you just pick 3 points to define the plane instead of actually creating a surface beforehand. Quote
ReMark Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 I'll take the cookie now. Two times "nothing" is still nothing. Pay up. LOL Quote
