MEP2011-No duct with the selected shape connection type exists in the current catalog

I've installed MEP twice and also done a repair.I keep running into the same problem over and over again.Im trying to learn MEP from a book and havent even got past the first few pages after 3 days!

Im running my project and have inserted a diffuser, I then go to click the blue ross on the diffuser and I get the add ducts dialogue box together with the following message:

No duct with the selected shape connection type exists in the current catalog

You must change either the shape or connection type, or switch to a catalog that contains this combination before you can add duct

What am I doing wrong or what do I need to do?Ive googled it and no luck.I've heard of people dragging a duct to the tool palette but thats not best solution, would be better to have the package working as it should from the start.

On a side note I think I'm going to stuggle a little bit learning this software as the book I have is in imperial and this software is set for metric.

One thing I have noticed is that if I set up a completely new drawing(im using preset projects for tutorial) and insert the same type diffuser as before then click on the blue cross to add duct, the add duct dialogue pops and no error.

This new drawing is using mm for its units rather than inches which the tutorial uses.

Should I be working in imperial, there appears to be no profile?I was initially going to work in metric and tconvert everything im working on in the tutorials.
