Marc5 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Having trouble with ARCH CAD 2010 "sticking" in a simple line command. Pointer locks up for a few seconds, works for a split second then locks up again. This will repeat 4 or 5 times then CAD may work for an hour or so just fine then do it again. Coumputer: HP Memory 6G 64 Bit Intel ® Core z, QUAD CPU, Q6700 @ 2.66GHz 2.67 GHz Applications running: Job Work Timer Internet radio station MicroSoft Outlook Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix? Thanks, Marc Quote

ReMark Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted at the AutoDesk Discussion forums by murray-clack: There are a few well documented things that have been known to cause this effect. 1. If you are using the Layer Palette - turn it OFF (set LAYERDLGMODE to 0 to get the classic layer manager back). 2. If the "Selection Preview" is on - turn it OFF. 3. If Dynamic UCS is turned on - turn it OFF. Quote
nestly Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I have a list of about 10 different things that can cause a jumpy cursor, but if it only happens intermittently, it may be a process that's happening in the background like an automatic save, or it might be one of your other apps doing something. The command line or AutoCAD text window should let you know if it's an automatic save, or you can check your Windows processes when it happens to see what's using your CPU cycles. Quote
ReMark Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 And it could be a faulty driver who knows? Maybe the OP can answer my question. It would be a start. Quote
Cadderpillar Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) If you are using Pandora for Internet radio it can cause the mouse to freeze for a second when it is changing the ads on the page or playing an ad. I have noticed that happening to me before but it is only for a second that the mouse locks up. _______________________ I design commercial playground equipment with CAD. Marc5 Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 Sorry, been at meetings all day. Thanks for all the responses and I will try / check all. For now I can let ya'll know I do not have the mouse problem in any other program. Thanks, Marc Quote
Marc5 Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 FOLLOW UP: LAYERDLGMODE is now set to 0 (it was 1) Dynamic USC is now OFF (is was ON) Selection Preview is set to 3. What should it be set to? It appears the media player for the radio station is Adobe Flash Player I will keep ya'll posted if the pointer lockes up again. Thanks, Marc Quote

Marc5 Posted December 31, 2010 Author Posted December 31, 2010 Your welcome and Happy New Year. Should I be concerned about Selection Preview at this time? Selection Preview is set to 3. What should it be set to? Quote
ReMark Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 The default setting for SelectionPreview is 3. To turn this feature OFF, as suggested above, set the value to "0". Explanations for many system variables can be found in your AutoCAD Help file. Quote
Marc5 Posted January 1, 2011 Author Posted January 1, 2011 Thanks, and yes I know many items can be found under "help"; however, I could not find the system variable for Selection Preview.......Found Selection Preview and read about it......May have over looked it. Is there a list of all system command abreviations and variables that can be down loaded / copied? Thanks Quote
nestly Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Options > Selection > Selection Preview Assuming you have Express Tools installed: Express > Tools > System Variable Editor (or SYSVDLG from the command line) will show you all the AutoCAD variables, the default setting, where the variable is stored, and a description of what is controlled by the variable. SELECTIONPREVIEW Controls the display of selection previewing. Objects are highlighted when the pickbox cursor rolls over them. This selection previewing indicates that the object would be selected if you clicked. The setting is stored as a bitcode using the sum of the following values: 0 Off 1 On when no commands are active 2 On when a command prompts for object selection ("3" means 1 and 2 are both active) Quote
kencaz Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I would suggest keeping your "selectionpreview" at '3' What really slows down systems with on board graphics is the Thickened lines when the cursor is passed over. The default for new autocad installations is "both" Thicken and Dashed. This can really tax even a good system if there are a lot of objects. I would suggest as I do change the "PREVIEWEFFECT" variable to '0' KC Quote

Marc5 Posted January 3, 2011 Author Posted January 3, 2011 Once agian, thanks to all. Exspress Tools loaded and SELECTIONPREVIEW is set to (3) and will remain at (3) at the momnent. I did changed PREVIEWEFFECT to (0) it was at (2). If pointer sticks, I will change SELECTIONPREVIEW to (0) as suggested. I will post in a few days if these changes (along with others mentioned above) helped pointer "sticking". Thanks....... Quote
Marc5 Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 Update........There has been no "sticking" of the mouse since the changes made suggested above. Thanks, again. Quote
