boofredlay Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Hey there all, long time. I have been stacked up with other projects and have not had much time to visit. Question; I remember being able to embed an image via an OLE object so I did not have to send the image separate from the dwg file. Now I am using Acad 2011 and through all the help files I have searched and what not I cannot get it to work properly. I can embed the image but as soon as the dwg is "away" from the image file it won't display. Any help would be appreciated. E Quote
CADkitt Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 copy/paste the image into your dwg or use _externalreferences for attaching images that where not inserted true copy/paste. Note: Inserting images into dwg will reduce the quality of the image. Quote
boofredlay Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 Those don't work. Like I mentioned before the image file has to go with the dwg in those cases. For the final result I want a single dwg file that I can send to the owner that has the image embedded in the file. In past versions of Autocad I could insert it as an OLE image but for 2011 I cannot seem to get it to work properly. Quote
CADkitt Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 It works fine at my installation but check out this tutorial: http://www.cadtutor.net/tutorials/autocad/using-images.php Quote
boofredlay Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 What works fine at your installation? Can you explain your process? And the tutorial you posted has nothing to do with my question. Quote
f700es Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Eric, have you tried e-transmit? I know it bundles all the files with the dwg. Not 100% what you wanted but maybe it will get you by. Quote
boofredlay Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 Yeah, e-transmit is nice however all it does is zip the dwg and images together for an email. I have a ton of drawings to be burned to a disc and part of the requirement is that there be no external references. It seems odd that Acad would loose the ability to embed an image through an OLE object. Our office got new machines so I don't have my previous version of Acad to do that otherwise I would not be asking. It is just 2011 giving me a headache (that or I just have not found the right check box yet ha ha) Quote
CADkitt Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 What you want is as far as I get it attach an image to a dwg. Your talking about OLE(Object Linking and Embeddin) object but that is in my view just the name of the attached image that autocad gives it. In the tutorial there is a section Attaching the Image If you do that your problem should be fixed. If i just ctrl-c from picasa and ctrl-v in autocad I get an ole object instantly. If you need to do this to multiple files you can use trueview see: (and it is you not autocad 2011 ) Quote
Daftlad Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I had this problem and gave up in the end as I could not get the image to stay with the drawing. I know that in 2005 you can "BIND" a XREF to a drawing and this is what i have done in the past but in 2011 you dont seem to be able to do this. I ended up drawing around my logo and creating a block. Quote
CADkitt Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 okey I tried the way you guys are trying it and is see there is no bind or insert function in the external ref manager. Pretty strange. So how to do this: open image in paint or paint.net or picasa. In most of those programs you have to select all (ctrl-a) and then copy (not in picasa just do ctrl-c) Go to Autocad just ctrl-v and your done. I have always used this because it is faster then some stupid insert box. Quote

What is equally odd is when I pasted it in from Paint I got an OLE dialog box which is what I was trying to insert with in the first place. I owe you a beer or three Kitt, thanks. Quote
