Architectural Tick

Is there a way to modify the default dimensioning arrows, such as Architectural Tick? Where is the information for these arrows located in the program files?

Thanks.

Did you know that you can create your own custom arrowheads/ticks/whatever? These objects are stored as block definitions.

Use the DIMSTYLE Command.

Modify whichever dimstyle you use.

Click on the "Symbols and Arrows" Tab and you will see the Arrowheads available to you.

Once you close the dimstyle it automatically saves. The changes you made are permanent.

Good Luck!!

As Remark's suggested, you can have any block in the DWG as your dim's marks (remember to draw the block as if you're doing it for 1:1 scale, the dimension would then scale it to suit as you draw the dim). If you've drawn a custom tick, then select the Custom option in the dialog HAWDesigner's explained about - and pick your block from the list.

There's one problem with custom marks, they'll always act as if they're arrows. Try to make a very short dim (such that the text is touching the 2 marks). You'll see that the extension lines grow longer. That's because the "tick"-marks are turned around as if they're arrows and an extra tail end is drawn for them.

Thus far the only way I was able to get around this problem is to use the default Architectural Tick. Then edit the auto-inserted block called _ArchTick to suit my needs. That way the tick actually acts like a tick, without turning and growing a tail - like you get with arrows.

Thanks all. I have been using a custom tick for a long time, but have had hair-pulling episodes because of the extra "tail." I hate exploding dimensions but have done so in the past to get these smaller ones to fit. Since I guess there's no feasible way to edit the source of the standard architectural tick, I think what you have described, irneb, is probably the best fix.

Yep. What I tend to do to ensure the _Archtic is as I need it, is to use a DWS file with the "correct" definition of that block. Then set my other drawings to Standards Check to that file. It pops up with a message if the current file's _Archtick is different than the one in the DWS. Not perfect, but at least it saves some time.
