HSKINNER Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Hi, I am in the prcess of creating a 3D model of a building from existing 2D plans. The building is a historic property and already exists, therefore all building elements, widths and heights of objects (walls windows etc) are already defined. I am Using Revit for this purpose as I intend the end result to act as a BMI as part of a pilot study. My problem; Alot of the tools used for building models within revit are already defiend such as wall type of wall/window and thickness. These are all designed to meet surrent standards and regulations however the building I am working with was built in a diferent era when standards of today did not exist. I want to know if there is a way to create custom walls or widows which can be modified by the user. For example a stone wall where the thickness can be controlled and/or can be tapered to my exacting specifications with the inclusion of relevant mouldings and details where suitable. In essence my perfect answer to this would be a historical building object pack as opposed to the exisiting objects within Revit. Worst case scenario is that I have to create these elements myself, however I do not know where to start so seek the advice of memebrs here to begin. Kind regards Quote
mintyfresh Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Right...same person here btw. I meant BIM not BMI as you probably all realised. I understand that I have to create these families first before I can use them. If anyone can reccomed a good duide or provide an explination of how to do this I would be most gratefull. This is going to be an intense project, and all of this is new to me, I have previously only every used AutoCAD but playing around for 30min l;ast night I managed to import a CAD file draw a floow and begin constructing walls. The only problem, is as I have stated above Quote

If that's the case please post an answer of some sort. Quote
Raudel Solis Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 i could help when it comes to autocad but revit, no, on autocad custom tapering could be done with a spline, extrude, and press pull command thats just 1 way of doing it, Revit Blend command might work also you might find this interesting http://revitclinic.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/08/10-wall-tips.html Quote
