ijon tichy Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Fitting model into paper Advice required. Lets say I want to produce a printout in A3 size and the drawing will require scaling to 1:100. Where do I start. Do I draw in full size then somehow scale to 1:100, or do I draw in 1:100 scale. Do I draw in model space in an A3 template or copy it into the template at a later stage. Thanks in advance Ijon Quote
JPlanera Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 #1 rule of autocad. ALWAYS draw 1:1 in model space. Your scale factor will be generated in Layout, using viewports. See the Help files for more information on layouts Quote
ReMark Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Draw your objects in model space at FULL size. No scaling objects up or down. FULL size. Got it? When done, switch to paper space and create your title block and border at 1:1 scale. Create a viewport or more than one using the MView command. Viewports allow us to see the objects we created back in model space. Apply a scale to the viewport either using the Zoom > Scale factor method or via the Viewports toolbar drop down scale list. Viewports can be sized with grips. Viewports should be on their own layer. Once you have your viewport set up the way you want lock the display so the scale does not get inadvertently changed. When plotting you do so from paper space at a scale of 1:1 (1 metric = 1 unit). Quote
ijon tichy Posted January 22, 2011 Author Posted January 22, 2011 Guys Thanks for the help. Viewport created, scaled and locked. However, I do have a slight problem. The scaled image of model space is displayed in the paperspace layout, but, a portion of the model space image (at a 1:1 scale) is also displayed as well as the complete scaled image. Quote
ReMark Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I'm at a loss to explain what is happening. Post an image or attach the actual dwg file here so we can take a look. Thanks. Quote
nestly Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I think there may be two viewports, especially if the "Create viewport in new Layouts" is checked on the Tools > Options > Display tab. Quote
ijon tichy Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Thanks. There where two viewports. I’ve switched off the create viewport option. Quote
