stenews Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Hi guys, I was wondering if it's possible to install AutoCad 2011 or any older releases on the same PC with an already CAD installation. I mean, with no issues at all Buy and thanks, Stefano Quote
JPlanera Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 (edited) all signs point to YES... but you will have issues, no matter what... multiple installs or not... such is life.. do you "need" to have all those versions on your computer??? Just asking Edited January 21, 2011 by JPlanera asking a question... Quote
stenews Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 Hi JPlanera and thanks for your reply answer but you will have issues... which ones...? Quote
JPlanera Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Find me a computer, or computer software that does not have issues at one point in time, and i will take it back... I simply meant that as a generalization Quote
stenews Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 oh...I see what you mean Could you please tell me if the 2011 release is so much different to use and understand than the older 2005 one? For an amateur user like me, of course Quote
ReMark Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 According to AutoDesk the only users who have their permission to do this are the ones on Subscription. Anyone else is supposed to remove the older version after 30 days has passed. Now, is AutoDesk going to actively search out everyone who owns AutoCAD to see that they have followed the rules? Probably not. At one time, prior to going on Subscription, I had r9, r12, 2000 and 2004 all on the same computer. Why? Because I never bothered to remove them. Did I have an "issues"? Only one. Sometimes all my dwg files would become "associated" with an older version rather than the most current version I was using. Otherwise, every one of the versions worked as normally expected. Quote
ReMark Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 There will be a big difference between 2005 and 2011 as you will eventually see. First and foremost is the "Ribbon". Quote
stenews Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 Hi ReMark and many thanks for your quick and clear reply answer as you usually do! First and foremost is the "Ribbon"what's that's...? Quote
BlackBox Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 First and foremost is the "Ribbon". ... what's that's...? AutoCAD 2011: Features Quote
ReMark Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 The "Ribbon" is really a Microsoft Office ripoff that doesn't work anywhere near as efficiently as AutoDesk would have you to believe. You'll end up wasting a lot of time clicking on tabs and panels and buttons. Some users hate it so much they have turned it off altogether and replaced it with Toolbars. Quote

ReMark Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 @RenderManthanks for the link you posted to me @ReMark thanks for your easy explanation That's what we try to do here. You're entirely welcomed. Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Install 2011 and play around with the ribbon, you might like it. When, like most of us, you decide you've had enough of that nonsense, there's a button in the lower righthand corner that's called "workspace switching". Clicking the arrow will pull up an assortment of options. Clicking on "AutoCAD Classic" will allow you to actually get some work done the way you're accustomed to doing it (with some customization, of course). Quote
ReMark Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I do use the Ribbon but it is a customized version. Quote
