How do you change 3D model name, 2D print name & make drawing linked to model

We are trying to keep track of 3D models by saving each file with a date added to the name. Then I save the 2D drawing as the same new name. But the drawing is still linked to the old name... How do you change the model it's linked to?

Design Assistant (or Vault).

I am at home now without Inventor access.

We do not have vault. Can you be more specific.

Start Design Assistant and open the top level file that references all relevant files (probably idw of iam).

Use Design Assistant (see attached) to rename files and the relationships are maintained with links to the new names.

Takes a bit of work to figure it out the first time through - so use a sample dataset to experiment till you get it figured out.
