I recieved a dwg file from an architect (away on vacation and can't reach to ask).

I'm working on a kitchen layout and the scale is off by a factor of 12.

My symbols are much too large and if I draw a 36" line it comes out to be 36'.

I've gone into Format-Dimension Style and don't see what to correct in this area.

Obvioulsy I can expand the drawn item by a scale of 12 to make my blocks fit but obviously screws up the dimensions...

What is this novice missing???

And yes, we're still running AutoCAD 2000

My guess is that your UNITs are different (one using feet, one using inches) between the two companies. The best solution is for both companies to agree on their base unit. Failing that you are going to have to scale one of the drawings by 12.

I can't remember 2000 but there should be a "measurement scale|Scale factor" setting in the dimension style somewhere which will realign the dimensions.

Yep, it sounds like he draws in feet, and you draw in inches. As you said, you can scale his drawing up by a factor of 12, but if you continue to work in his drawing, all the scales for his dimstyles, textstyles, multileader styles etc will be off by a factor of 12. How you deal with it depends on whether you're returning the drawing to him. If he's not getting the drawing back, I'd scale his drawing up by 12 then chance the scalefactor for his dimstyle. You could also xref his drawing in if you're not going to make changes to his drawing.

You could just continue drawing it in feet, unless you need inches. 36"/12 "/' = 3'-0" you would draw your line 3 units. The DimStyle will determine what is shown in the Dimension.
