idllc Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Auyone ever purchased any MvParts from any of the online sources, specifically items that revolve around HVAC? If so, what do you think? Quote
tzframpton Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Nope. I always draw my own. I only create MvParts from submittal data direct from the reseller/manufacturer of each job. I do this for a number of reasons.... (1) I trust my own accuracy and (2) when searching for actual MvParts online, I've always came up empty handed. Now, what you can do, is download a 3D file available on a manufacturer's website, double check the accuracy of the dimensions, then convert it to an MvPart using the MVPARTCONVERT command. That's came in handy plenty of times. Quote
blackeagle1245 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 We cant create catalog with mvparts right?. We need to do these by creating block based parts right?. It's a little bit longer but at least we can see them together. Quote
tzframpton Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Sure you can, it's easy. What I usually do is this.... Say you have a VAV system. I get the submittal, and I'll draw up in 3D each model of VAV unit. If the job only uses 6", 10", and 12" round inlet sizes, I'll still draw up the 8", 14", 16" models too, just to have them for future use. Then I block each one to match their unique model number. I'll open up Content Builder to create the MvParts but I'll store it in the custom catalog I created. You can add multiple catalogs under the Options > MEP Catalogs dialog box. Quote
blackeagle1245 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 yes yes I was exactly talking about the same thing. I'm doing the same also. But when you create mvparts from content builder it is block based parts right?. If you just right click to 3d block and say convert to=> mvpart then it wont be in the catalog. Quote
tzframpton Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Yep, that's correct. MVPARTCONVERT does not catalog the part. Quote
idllc Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 I guess I'm doing it the old fashioned way, just my own folders and sub-folders that i catalog my MvParts into. and advatages to using the MEP catalogs? Quote
idllc Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 I don't know if you have seen this, but it would be really slick....but i cant get it to work. Any of you smart folks tried this yet?? (Smile) i would think that if it worked in 2009 it would work in 2011.....? http://geniusoft.blogspot.com/2008/07/automatic-pipe-size-and-length-via.html Quote

If you create your own catalog then the parts are immediately accessible via the MVPARTADD command. I assume you copy/paste now? Quote
blackeagle1245 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I want to create a block based part but it is a little bit complicated. When I click generate blocks button I wait a lot and also something occurs when I add the part to the drawing. what should I do? Quote
