br0604bom Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 when you click on edgesurf, when do you alter the number of faces and smoothness? many thanks to someone with an answer Quote
fahim108 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) You cannot alter the smoothness of a surface created with the EDGESURF command. However, you can change the values for SURFTAB1 (and SURFTAB2) before performing EDGESURF to get a more tessellated (smoother) surface. Hope that helps. -Edit- Memory issues! JD Mather Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Is there a reason you are using edgesurf rather than loft? Quote

Fahim, thanks for getting back on this, when you action the edge surf, it shows SURFTAB 1=6, SURFTAB 2=6, in my case, it then shows 36 faces, i think this is what i am meaning and what you mentioned, how can you change the values(faces)? many thanks Quote
br0604bom Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 for a wavy surface i did not think loft was appropriate, no? Quote

fahim108 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Damn! I need to defragment my brain... sorry for the confusion, I meant the values for SURFTAB1 and SURFTAB2 should be increaed before doing the EDGESURF command. lol! Quote

SLW210 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Are you sure the values are being entered? Type SURFTAB1 on command line 9 then do the same for SURFTAB2. Quote
SLW210 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 All done with Edgesurf with SURFTAB1 & SURFTAB2 = 9 Command: Surftab1 Enter new value for SURFTAB1 <10>: 9 Command: Surftab2 Enter new value for SURFTAB2 <15>: 9 Quote
fahim108 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 As Steve pointed out, are you sure you're entering the values of SURFTAB1 and SURFTAB2 before EDGESURF? Just to demonstrate what the SURFTABs do... Quote
br0604bom Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 thanks very much fahim and SLW210, got it in the end, I was making the mistake of trying to make the change when in the command but have since sorted it out, many thanks once again Quote
JD Mather Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 for a wavy surface i did not think loft was appropriate, no? Uhmmm, I thought that was exactly what Loft was for? Quote
SLW210 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Uhmmm, I thought that was exactly what Loft was for? And you would be correct, in my humble opinion. I guess most just like using what is familiar. Quote
br0604bom Posted March 25, 2011 Author Posted March 25, 2011 thanks very much for that JD, but in what I was looking to do, loft was not right, but it is something I shall look into in future, thanks again Quote
