Hi all,

First of all I am very new to 3d drawing and the 'view/cube' tool. So I may need to get my settings correct before trying to complete the task (see below attachment)

I am trying to complete a 3D drawing of a 'sweep' using the sweep tool as part of a course. The book I am using to follow the course is very brief when explaining this particular exercise. It is my first experience of using this tool. This is a link to the drawing... http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22748810/Chapter%2012%20Exercise%209.odt

How do I create the path for for the sweep? I can draw the polylines (not as shown) only as two separate polylines as if it was a basic 2D drawing. When I click the sweep tool (in a 3D working space) and chose the 'curve/sweep' polyline I then do not know how to create the path for the sweep so as to show it as shown in the link above.

Many thanks,

Jacob

I can't open the link you posted, but a sweep path can be generated by using 2d polylines, regular lines, arcs, circles, 3dpolylines, helixes or the edges of solids or surfaces.

First, construct your path. You said you had 2 polylines, to connect them use the "pedit" command and join them. then place the object you wish to sweep at one end, start the sweep command and pick the path. It should sweep the shape from one end to the other.

Thanks for the reply, i think I understand what you are saying and will try and figure it out, but the problem i have is making the polylines appear in the position they are shown... obviously if you cannot see the link this may make no sense to you whatsoever! :)
