ugsurveyor Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 I'm new to the site like 3 minutes ago, so sorry for the sophomoric question... I just need to convert a dwg to iges. The 'manage attachments' section of this post is quite confusing. I'm struggling to even upload a file...any help avail.? Quote
JD Mather Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 (edited) You will need to zip the file first. In Windows Explorer - Right click on the filename and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder. Or download free Inventor Fusion http://labs.autodesk.com and convert the file yourself. Edited April 8, 2011 by JD Mather Quote
ugsurveyor Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 JD Thanks for the prompt reply. I am still having problems uploading my file. I compressed as you suggested, and still can't get through the file attachment screen. It first prompts you to: '1. Click Add files to upload new files or select from existing files below.' This part seems to go okay, but after that, you're prompted to then: '2. Drag previously uploaded files into this area to attach them.' This is where I'm stuck. Like I said earlier: Newby, Newby Sorry enough, I also didn't quite know how to download the Inventor Fusion. Quote
Cad64 Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 You cannot attach files larger than 250kb. Is your zip file larger than that? Why don't you just download the free program that was suggested and do the conversion yourself? Quote
ugsurveyor Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 JD, Another thing I've learned in this short day, was that if I use DXFout, my file should be usable. I'm trying to get MasterCAM to read this particular file. Is this possible, or do I need to indeed convert to an IGS? Quote
ugsurveyor Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 Hey Cad64, thanks for the reply. You guessed it, my file is at 487kb (zipped). Now can you take a second and explain the free program? I went to AU and really didn't see where to look for conversion software there. Again, stupid is as stupid does. sorry for the ignorance. Quote
Cad64 Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 You shouldn't have to convert your file at all. Depending on your version of MasterCAM it should be able to read your .dxf file or possibly even your .dwg file. http://www.mastercam.com/Support/TechTips/converters/converters.htm Quote
SLW210 Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 With what Cad64 posted you should also be able to export as ACIS .sat and/or Stereolithography .stl as well several more that AutoCAD can convert. Quote
JD Mather Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 dwg, dxf, sat (acisout) but forget all about stl for MasterCAM - you don't want to go there. I gave you the wrong link before - http://labs.autodesk.com and I'm not entirely sure the labs version will save IGES. The new 2012 release will. Quote
