Hitman6267 Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Hello, I need help in getting the following info from the alignment I have. PI stations for my curves. Is this the info I get when I go to Alignments> Edit How can I get the info to fill the following table ? Why does the labels on my vertical profile look like this Instead of I did mine in the following manner : Profile> FG Vertical Alignments > Import and click yes to label tangents. Does it have to do with the fact that the correct profile seems to have applied the fillet command to the tangents while I did not ? Quote
CyberAngel Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 It looks like you are new to Civil 3D. It also looks like the profile you want is the standard format from Land Development Desktop. Unfortunately (to put it mildly), Autodesk did not make any provision in Civil 3D for people who got used to doing things in the standard format. To get the same labels, you must define a profile label style for sag curves and another for crest curves. That is a very complex process, a daunting one if you haven't done it before. The "fillet" is a vertical curve. When you create a profile, Civil 3D applies a group of settings with default values. One is the curve length, which automatically inserts a curve at every PVI. You can edit the curve lengths once you have your profile. As for the table, the information is in there somewhere. I've never had to create a table like that, so I don't know how to extract that data, but it can all be added to the profile as labels. If you are starting out with Civil 3D, learn everything you can about Toolspace. It is a collection of information about the high-level objects in your drawing (Prospector) and the styles that apply to them (Settings). Quote
Hitman6267 Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 I've been told that a step was missing from the guide. At one time I should go to Alignments > FG vertical Curves. That will make curves out of my tangents. The problem is when I tried to do that, the curve created doesn't fix it self to the extremities of the tangents. What is the proper way of doing this step ? CyberAngel Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Which "guide" are you talking about? Are you using Civil 3D or Land Desktop? What do you mean by "extremities of the tangents"? Quote
Hitman6267 Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 oh I'm sorry, in my other threads I referenced the guide so I thought I did here. I was given a guide to follow to do this work for a course at my university. I'm using "AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2009" I generated the vertical profile of my alignment, then I drew tangents using lines. Now I have to turn these tangents into curves. I'm supposed to do that by doing Alignments > FG vertical Curves Now here's the problem, from the windows that opens I select K value from the list on the left and I click ok. Autocad asks me for min K value I write 13 then it says curve length so I leave the value given then it asks me to select incoming tangent, I choose the first one Then it asks me for the outgoing tangent I select the 2nd tangent. The result should be a sag curve that has for PVC the left extremity of the incoming tangent and PVT the right extremity of the outgoing tangent. My result is a sag curve that is slightly shifted to the left and is not "hooked" on the extremities. Quote
CyberAngel Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 In Land Desktop, a profile is not just a collection of lines, text, etc. There's a set of data used to generate the profile. When you "drew tangents using lines," were you using the profile tools or drawing those lines manually? If you change parts of the profile manually without changing the underlying data, they get out of sync. My guess is that the parts of your profile don't match up because some are manual and some are generated. Quote
Hitman6267 Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 thank you for your help I'm done with the project now. Quote
