We are having out of memory printing problems where the AutoCAD closes. We are using Civil3d 2010 on Windows XP Pro SP3 on individual PCs but with network licences. We have lots of memory and disk space. We are printing to a HP T2300 eMPF (brand new) with 32Gb RAM and 160Gb hard drive.

Our issues are probably to do with file size. Our plots can contain aerial imagery, gradients and hatches, and this is when we have problems. The last plot we tried with imagery and 2 hatches - everything plots except for one of the hatches and autocad crashes. Another layout has a large gradient area and a couple of hatches, and the gradient doesn't print.

We've checked our spooling options. It happens whether we print directly to the printer or to PDF or to file. It's running out of memory in autocad when it's spooling the plot.

Any suggestions? This is getting seriously frustrating, and no real solutions from anyone...we need help!

I've had this problem on occasion when printing large (70+ A1 sheets) sets containing images. The only workaround I have is to print it in two (or more if required) lots.

Many "out of memory" problems are a result of an undersized swap file.

Where do I check/find the swap file?

Swap file = Virtual memory.

You can find the info on the Microsoft website for your particular OS just by searching on the phrase "manage virtual memory".
