Trouble inputting points along alignment

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi,

When I try to use the command - create points-alignment\import from file...

and i use a txt file (I've tried space and comma delimited)I receive the message

"invallid characters found in input string"

Please let me know if you see any problems with the file, or can tell me what i am not doing correctly.

It will be so much better if i do not have to type these in by hand!

Thanks.

The spaces in your file are not spaces, they're tab characters. You can use Replace in a word processor (Notepad won't recognize tabs in Replace) to fix it. Once I changed the tabs to spaces, I could import them, no problem.

If you want to replace tabs in TextPad use "\t" as the search string and check the "Regular Expression" box. In the TextPad Help under "Regular Expressions" is the full list of these special charachters .

@ Space Mouse,

You have a blank line in your list and I'm not sure how that would be handled, as a matter of principle I would not have any blank lines in my points list - its cleaner.

Also you have multiple repetitions, 153 lines in your original file and ony 59 when the repetitions are removed. Some software will not recognise 9658.4 as being the same as 9658.40, because its comparing strings and not numbers and as strings the examples here are different. Would duplicate points be created in your alignment? Try it and see if it is a problem. But same as above I would as a principle remove all duplicate entries and its easy enough done in TextPad using sort and remove duplicates.

Good luck.
