Buggsy Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) Hey there ya all. I just tried to do an xref and the command stops everything. I get no reaction from autocad. What is wrong? Ok, here is an update: The Xref Palette is docked to my left side and when I hover to get it to flip out I click the DWG button in the left hand upper corner. Well nothing happens from there. Now, when I type -xref the command works at the command line. How do I get the palette to work again? Edited May 6, 2011 by Buggsy Quote
DANIEL Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 what do you mean by 'you get no reaction from autocad' ??? Quote
Buggsy Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 nothing the command sort of locks autocad up. I hit esc and the command cancels and autocad works again. oh I updated first post Quote
jaylo23 Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 If you have the palette can you click on the "DWG" icon and attach a xref? Quote
Buggsy Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 That is the problem,,,,,,I use the palette all the time and now it won't do what it is supposed to do when I click the DWG icon, everything just stops Quote
jaylo23 Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 IDK man that sounds weird, maybe turn off the palette, close CAD, open back up and turn the palette back on. Ill see if i can re-create the problem in the meantime. Quote
DANIEL Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 you my try completely rebooting in order to get everything to reinitialise(sp? lol) Quote
Buggsy Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 I've tried all that already,,,,,I've restarted autocad many different times,,,,,,I've rebooted system from ground up,,,,,,,I've turned off the palette,,,,,,,I've changed the filedia to "0" and back to "1",,,,,,,,,,Still nothing is making the palette work right??????? jaylo23 Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 What happens if you change to the "classicxref" state? Will the xref command work as it use to then? Quote
Buggsy Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) OK, now I click the open dwg icon and the explorer window doesn't come up and at the command line it ask me for dwg name to open,,,,,now what????? There is an example of changing something and not changing it back (filedia) Edited May 6, 2011 by Buggsy Quote
Buggsy Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 I typed "classicxref" and the xref manager came up like it should...... The classic Xref came up, not the one that comes up witht the palette Quote
rkent Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Are you using Norton 360? There is an update available from symantec. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=13219632&linkID=9240617 Quote
Buggsy Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 No, I'm running Autocad 2010 Mechanical, Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit with Micorsoft Security Essentials on this particular work station. I will download all the directories and files for this project and take it home tonight and see how the 2012 at home reacts to this situation. Quote
rkent Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I would start AutoCAD with a new profile and test it that way. If the same problem is still there have someone else log into your computer and try it again. Quote
Organic Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 I would try and do a repair installation in this case. Quote
Buggsy Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 The main package for this project came from a firm that does not use autocad. I can't remember the name of the software (Bently????), but the main package is around 100 megs and it did give me a little trouble handleing it at work with 2010. My system at home seems to be taking care of it better with 2012. I have no trouble with the same package at home with the xref manager. I have seen that 2006 & 2007 had trouble with this on autodesk web site. The work station is setup with only one user and that user has full admin rights, so I'm at a loss here for a while. I will try a new profile and see if that helps. Quote
