harley558 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I am trying to shell the raised portion on this disc from the back. What this actually is is an area where there has been an embossment or pressing of the steel to create the raised portion. Which in creating the raised portion on the back it also creates a depression. I thought that maybe shelling would be the most accurate and the quickest way to acheive this but I can not get it to shell the raised area. Disc.zip Quote
JD Mather Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 You are doing too much work. See the Ice Cube Tray tutorial in my signature. Simplify Sketch1 (and fully dimension and constrain - this looks like imported AutoCAD garbage). I would leave out the center hub hole and chamfer for now as well (didn't do it in my pic). You will need to carefully consider your fillet sizes in relation to shell thickness. (I didn't take the time to fix these in my pic.) Then simply Shell removing all of the back faces - the shell command will take care of giving you a uniform thickeness parts with the offset embosses and fillets. If you have trouble - post back and I'll see if I can spend a bit more time on this. But in general, if you have a uniform thickness stamped part model one side and Shell will create the rest. Then cut all of the holes. Quote
harley558 Posted May 16, 2011 Author Posted May 16, 2011 I take it you have NEVER when creating a sketch imported a profile from Autocad? The 2 screenshots do not show me how certain things were achieved. Is there anyway you can send me what you have done in a 2010 format. Quote
JD Mather Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I take it you have NEVER when creating a sketch imported a profile from Autocad? There is nothing inherently wrong with using AutoCAD, but in my experience very few people know how to use AutoCAD and it is difficult to tell where they have made mistakes without a lot of effort. For example - this part isn't uniform thickness as modeled from AutoCAD? And now that one mistake has been found I start to be concerned with tangencies and other geometric issues. Quote
JD Mather Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 ...so then I start to look around and find other things that don't make logical sense? Quote
JD Mather Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 The first thing I would do in providing a solution would be to start over from scratch getting a fully constrained - easy to edit foundation for the rest of my design. Quote
harley558 Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 I see what you mean. It wasn't I who created this Autocad drawing, I was just told to create the disc based on the Cad profile. Quote
JD Mather Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 If I get a chance I'll try to show a step-by-step, but as I'm using 2012 I will only be able to supply pictures. Quote
