vertical horizons Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 When using IV 2009, when I wanted to move a rectangular part next to another rectangular part, right or wrong, I'd - right-click on the 1st part; choose COMPONENT > GRIP SNAP; select the corner of the 1st rectangular part; select MOVE POINT USING REFERENCE GEOMETRY; re-select the same corner of the 1st rectangular part; then select the corner of the 2nd rectangular part. This would make the 1st part align with the 2nd part, at the two corners. We have upgraded to IV 2012. Now, whenever I attempt to move a part, like described above, I can not get it to work. I am sure that there is a better way of making the movement. But don't know what that would be. BTW, I always use CONSTRAINT whenever possible. Quote
kencaz Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 I guess It may come in handy in certain circumstances, however, I have never used it, and don't really see the need when you can constrain properly... Although it does work fine in 2011. Maybe it was removed for lack of need... KC Quote
JD Mather Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 I have never used that. I always use assembly constraints to mimic the real world. Quote
vertical horizons Posted May 30, 2011 Author Posted May 30, 2011 ...I always use assembly constraints to mimic the real world. How do you use assembly constraints to make a rectangular part's corner align with another rectangular part's corner? Since I can no longer use the method that I used in IV 2009, I have had to measure the distance between two parts, then, using COMPONENTS > GRIP SNAP, I would move one of the parts the required distances, 1 direction at a time, (x direction, y direction, then z direction), in order to align one part with another. JD Mather Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 How do you use assembly constraints to make a .... Zip and attach your assembly here. This should be trivially easy. Quote
vertical horizons Posted May 31, 2011 Author Posted May 31, 2011 We have found a solution. Right-click on the 1st part; choose COMPONENT > GRIP SNAP; select the corner of the 1st rectangular part; select FREE DRAG; then select the corner of the 2nd rectangular part. Done. Quote
