Before -Acad 2002- I was able to select circle, grab the hot grip, move in direction I need to change, type distance ie. 0.5 and circle size increase dia + 0.5.

Now - Acad 2010 in the same situation when I type 0.5 it actually change size of circle to 1 dia.

It must be variable to change but which one?:?

hey ok well there might be an issue with your units setup with precision

if you type in the "UNITS" command without the " "

you can see your units and how they work , for example

whether your units are in decimal feet, or feet with inches and how your angles are measure in either decimals or degrees minutes and seconds

now still in the units window look for a rollout that says precision

if its set to 0 then it will only display one number

if its 3 or 4 it will be more precise and carry it over some more 0.000 0.00000000 etc...

-------

correction------------->

it increases the diameter by 1 because the creation method is as follows

1: specify center

2: specify radius

that is why it increases the diameter by 1

------------

in 2010 you can right click and choose quick properties there your circle's information will be displayed

I think you may have been tripped up by the absolute/reference change in distance measurement at around 2006.

Try prefixing the distance with an @ symbol.

** STRETCH **

Specify stretch point or [base point/Copy/Undo/eXit]:

>>Enter new value for ORTHOMODE :

Resuming GRIP_STRETCH command.

Specify stretch point or [base point/Copy/Undo/eXit]: @1

Point or option keyword required.

@ is not working. When I switch to dynamic I got to type -(minus) 0.5 to stretch outward (?)

oh well it was worth a try. I guess for the sake of completeness you could try #0.5 but I don't hold up much hope.

Be sure Object Snap Tracking is enabled and then you'll be able to enter a distance as measured from an Object Snap:

Not ideal, but all I could think of.

Must be a quirk related to Dynamic input. It seems to work OK when using the asepoint option, but direct distance entry always seems to move the grip toward the center of the circle unless you move the mouse away from the grip a greater distance than the diameter of the circle before inputting the displacement.... weird.

basepoint work but it is another clicks away...weird!

I think everyone is correct. Just need to bring it all together. I don't recall if 2002 had Dynamic Input or Object Snap Tracking.

If Dynamic Input is on, you have to make sure the proper text box is highlighted by using the tab button. In the image, the overall radius is highlighted, so if I type "25" in there, the radius becomes 25. But tab to "22.77" and type "25", then my overall radius increases by 25.

With Object Snap Tracking disabled, typing a number gives the circle radius. With Osnap Tracking ON you can increase the radius by the user input.

I think 'Offset' is way better for these situations.

So now: How to make Osnap Tracking box to be highlighted first by default?

Posted

at the bottom left of autocad you can see a simple tool bar that includes OSNAP and ortho mode those seem to be my most essential and necessary tools.

i know theres a command to make a default startup i just forgot what it was

It was changed several releases ago, from help

"If you select a quadrant grip to stretch a circle or ellipse and then specify a distance at the Command prompt for the new radius—rather than moving the grip—this distance is measured from the center of the circle, not the selected grip."

I wonder what's up with the dynamic input thing going the wrong direction though?

Weird. I tend to offset anyway. As was mentioned. It's one extra step to erase the original but it's still fast. Or change it in the properties.

i believe its with the ucs

when i open my default self made template i type at first can type in presspull 5' and it pulls it towards me 5'

later on in the game when i use presspull 5' it pushes it 5'

i find no problem i just work with what happens.

Will try to play with, too much work today and too hot....

AutoCAD has a lot of different ways to do things. Every once in a while, it has to dang many ways....I think this is one of those times. "The more they tack on to the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain".

this is the same problem as i had here i think - for some reason my home pc has different dynamic input preferences to my work pc and i cannot find the difference. and it seems nobody else knows how to do it either.
