lokinderr Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 hello every1 i have some problems in creating a rail alignment. i am unable to find where i have to set transition curve and how to change the units from feet to meter in alignment creation Quote
lokinderr Posted May 31, 2011 Author Posted May 31, 2011 guys please tell me if Civil 3D can work like BENTLEY RAIL TRACK Quote
CyberAngel Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 As for units, that's a drawing setting. Try the UNITS command. The curve radius is almost as simple. At some point you will get the Alignment Layout toolbar. The first button has Curve and Spiral Settings. Define your curve type and radius there. Bentley Rail Track? Never heard of it. Quote
sinc Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 As a general rule, it is recommended that you avoid using the UNITS command in Civil 3D drawings, and you DEFINITELY shouldn't try to use it to change a drawing from Imperial to Metric (or vice-versa). There are too many interdependent settings, and that approach doesn't work well at all. Instead, you should always start with a template that uses the correct units - an Imperial template for Imperial units, or a Metric template for Metric units. If you are working in a Coordinate System, you can set that Coordinate System in the Drawing Settings. Note that you can also set the Drawing Units in the Drawing Settings, and if you have the option selected for "Set AutoCAD variables to match", you'll also see the changes reflected in UNITS. However, as stated above, you shouldn't just change a drawing from Feet to Meters, or vice-versa. None of your Styles will be right, among other problems. Instead, you should always start with an appropriate template. Also, Civil 3D is designed to be used ONLY in Feet or Meters. You shouldn't ever have UNITS set to inches or millimeters if you expect to use any Civil 3D functionality in the drawing. Quote
BIGAL Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Had a little bit to do with railways and have not checked CIV3d but railways use complex transistion formulas with spirals joining spirals sometimes, not sure if the spiral option in the CIV3d alignments is correct for railway design. Hence the Bently Rail Track option nee microstation may be a specific design tool taking into account the more complex spirals. Did a quick google and found a book Railway spirals 155 pages !!!!
