Bill Tillman Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 I've just started using Inventor Pro 2012 on a machine which I built for running AutoCAD 2011. I get excellent results with AutoCAD but while running Inventor I've had at least four occassions where Inventor just quit and I got the option to send an error message on to MS/AD. But more than that I've encountered the condition shown in the attached jpg file. The top shows what I'm working with and the bottom shows what happens to the image when I try to move or rotate the view. Most of the time just ending the sketch will bring everything back to normal. But sometimes it doesn't and I have to exit Inventor and restart. The graphics card I have is approved by AutoDesk for AutoCAD that much I'm sure of because I checked it out before I bought it. Yes, I could have spent more on a higher end card but the graphics with this card are more than satisfactory for my needs. Quote
Lazer Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Try options>hardware click diagnostic for a report on the graphic card, you can also tick software graphics, this may help? Quote

They have an excellent program for this but unfortunately they also seemed to have replaced the graphics driver I installed with this card, with their own...or at least it appears that way. I'm going to have to investigate this further. This reminds me of the old Windows 3.1 days when we went through DLL Hell because every hardware and/or software manufacturer wanted to install their own libraries and drivers which often caused conflicts with other programs. SLW210 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 It would be nice if the good old Microsoft folks would include a check box for certain drivers and specifications that you could check to prevent this sort of thing. Better yet' date=' once you have it all configured the way you want it for what you do most of the time, make these "changes" temporary, lasting only for the duration of the session that needed the change. Then put it back the way it was automatically. I am no programmer, but that would be a real improvement if someone could figure out how to do it.[/quote'] It is called a "restore point". Quote
Cad64 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I don't think that would work very well. What if you have to run two, or more, programs at the same time, but they all require different drivers? Quote
Bill Tillman Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 Here is what I found out. LogMeIn definitely confessed to doing so, but the tech I spoke with was very knowlegeable about it....that's something I'm not used to. I'm no graphics card driver guru so I will try to explain what he said carefully. LogMeIn did install an alternative driver for this card. And it is supposed to turn over control of the card when it's done back to the original driver. But it apparently doesn't do that because even when I don't have LogMeIn running, the diagnostics in Inventor show the LogMeIn driver reporting back to the inquiry. The tech did tell me if the problem persists, just call them and they will help me to remove the driver and run strictly with the one that I installed with the card. So far it's not been an insurmountable problem. When the screen whacks out, it usually comes back by exiting the sketch mode and then coming back into it. A few times I have had to stop and restart Inventor and to date I have not lost any work. But I will continue to research this and try and resolve it. Now, to comment on the two applications running at the same time. Hell yes, this will be happening. I work mainly from home right now doing freelance stuff...in other words I'm unemployed for the moment. But the few clients I have done work for in the last few weeks are not exactly the greatest at understanding drawings so being able to share my desktop with them and allow them to see the drawings while we talk on the phone, being able to point right to the areas in question, etc...this is what I am doing so yes, I run the two applications simultaneously often. Ok, that's great. In the post where you discovered the problem, you said Not long ago I had to do some remote Desktop Sharing on this computer and I installed software from LogMeIn.com. That made me think it was something you did once. Have a great day. Quote
