floripabay Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Hello, I have a rectangle and extruded it to make a box. Then I drew an edge from side to opposite side on the top side of the box. What Im trying to do is pull the edge to form an attic like structure over the box. I can do it with the imprint command but isn't there a faster way of doing it, like in Sketchup? Quote
drifter15 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 am trying to imagine what you are trying to do, Can you please post a picture to show what you are trying to do? Thanks, I am sure you will find good help here Quote
ReMark Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 How is this done in Sketchup that it ends up being faster? drifter15: Imagine creating a roof on a house. Quote

Our houses differ than your houses !! Floripabay I think you can extrude the edge through the sides of the box. Quote
floripabay Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Yes I didn't explain myself very well. I'm trying to model a simple single house with a gable roof. In sketchup you just draw a rectangle, extrude it, then draw a line on the top side of the box from side to side and pull it. In autocad you have to imprint the line to the solid in order to be able to pull it. I have quite a lot of houses I have to model this way so it would be nice if it were as fast as in sketchup. Actually I already finished the job using the imprint command, but still it would be nice to know if there was a quicker way. Quote
drifter15 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 (edited) You mean like this one? Draw the box. Go to front view (assuming front view is the side view in this image) draw the edge, extrude it through the length of the box and use slice command to remove the top prisms. Then using the same edge, you can create the roof and extrude it through the length of the box. I hope I am clear, I didn't do it AutoCAD to generate pictures. Edited June 9, 2011 by drifter15 Quote

And yes that's another way of doing it, but I prefer using imprint. Anyway I've search through and through the Internet and it seems its not possible to do it without the Imprint command; there is no option for automatically imprinting lines drawn on solids... Quote
SEANT Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Imprint can be automated via command macro; ^C^C_Line;mid;\mid;\;_Solidedit;b;i;\last;y;;x;x; If the macro is followed by a CTRL+edge selection, the wholeprocess can be fairly fluid. Quote

Wow! Cool, that's much better! I really have to put myself into learning macros and scripts... Quote
f700es Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Why would you not just draw the side of the house with the slope (roof) already there? Then press/pull or extrude out. Yes, far easier in SU. Quote
